St Andrew’s has a strong musical tradition. The choir has recently lost several key members but the remaining members usually robe to lead worship on Sundays, occasionally singing an anthem during communion.
Our Mass setting is Thorne in D. Hymns are taken from Anglican Hymns Old and New. At the monthly Family Mass the music is more relaxed and cosmopolitan, led from the piano rather than the organ.
The children at Family Mass play percussion instruments to accompany the introit, the Gloria, and the final procession.
An informal group sings hymns during communion. On occasional Sunday afternoons, a “Songs of Praise” event is held, aiming to practise familiar hymns and introduce new ones.
Our talented and committed organist sometimes composes and arranges music for us. We benefit from a two manual tracker action Walter J Bird organ built in around 1890, now in need of some
attention. Our challenge is to recruit new members of all voices, including children to enhance our worship.
